The Elia Do Mar and Ollie Tooley Quintet bring the energy, swing and soulful melodies of hard bop to Toulouse Lautrec.

Following the release of their album Progressions, the quintet have gained growing recognition across the London jazz scene, performing at venues including the 606 Club, PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho and MAP Studio Café.

Drawing inspiration from jazz greats such as Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, Red Garland and Philly Joe Jones, the group combines driving rhythms, vibrant horn arrangements and expressive improvisation with fresh original compositions. Expect an exciting evening celebrating the hard bop tradition through the sound of some of London’s most promising young jazz musicians.

About the Artists

London-based pianist and composer Elia Do Mar leads the quintet alongside drummer and longtime collaborator Ollie Tooley. Rooted in hard bop, bebop and the American songbook, Elia’s playing is influenced by artists including Red Garland, Sonny Clark, Wynton Kelly and Grant Green. His latest album, Progressions, blends classic hard bop with elements of Portuguese fado.

Ollie Tooley is a versatile drummer and multi-instrumentalist whose influences include Max Roach, Art Blakey, Buddy Rich and Philly Joe Jones. Elia and Ollie are joined by melodic alto saxophonist Harry Mumford, rising young trumpeter Dan Tooley and versatile London bassist Zaki Osahn.

Connected through the Royal Academy of Music, the quintet bring together a shared love of jazz tradition with the creativity and energy of London’s emerging jazz scene.
