Libor Šmoldas and Nigel Price first met eight years ago and immediately discovered a shared musical instinct. Kindred spirits with an irrepressible desire to play straight-ahead, no-nonsense jazz, their sound is firmly rooted in the tradition while carrying unmistakable touches of blues and soul.
Performing on guitar and baritone guitar, the duo will explore a carefully chosen selection of jazz standards alongside original compositions. Expect warm tones, spirited improvisation and a deep reverence for the masters, delivered with the pair’s own distinctive character and chemistry.
About Libor Šmoldas
Prague-based jazz guitarist and composer Libor Šmoldas has performed and recorded with internationally renowned musicians including James Morrison, George Mraz, Jeff Ballard, Sam Yahel, Bobby Watson, Adam Nussbaum, Brian Charette, Jay Anderson and Stephen Keogh.
He has released eight albums as a bandleader and has toured extensively throughout Europe and beyond. As a member of Ondřej Pivec’s Organic Quartet, he received an Anděl Award for the year’s best jazz recording.
About Nigel Price
Over a career spanning more than 30 years, award-winning guitarist Nigel Price has become recognised as one of the UK’s most highly regarded and hardest-working jazz musicians.
He has appeared on more than 60 albums, including ten as a leader, spent a decade with acid-jazz outfit The Filthy Six and played with the James Taylor Quartet for three years, recording five albums with the group.
Nigel has completed 19 UK tours and received numerous accolades, including the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Ensemble in 2010 and the British Jazz Award for Best Guitarist in 2016. A regular at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, he has made more than 600 appearances at the legendary London venue.
