Vibrant European Jazz with Latin Influence

As part of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2026, award-winning Swiss pianist and composer Manon Mullener brings her trio to Toulouse Lautrec for a vibrant evening of contemporary jazz, blending Latin influences, lyrical melodies and musical inspiration gathered from around the world.

Described by Radio France as one of the promising young voices of European jazz, Manon Mullener is a Swiss pianist and composer whose music moves effortlessly between contemporary jazz, Latin rhythms and the melodic influences of her native Switzerland.

Joined by Lucien Mullener on drums and Rodrigo Aravena on electric bass, Manon presents music shaped by years of travelling and performing across the globe. Her compositions unfold like musical travel journals, carrying echoes of New York, Havana, European jazz clubs and festival stages into a sound that is intimate, rhythmic and full of colour.

Her latest album, Stories, was recorded in New York and released in March 2025, followed by an extensive international tour of more than 100 performances. Each piece has its own narrative, combining expressive melodies, dynamic improvisation and a deep sense of musical storytelling.

Following appearances across Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and beyond, the Manon Mullener Trio arrives at Toulouse Lautrec for a special EFG London Jazz Festival performance of adventurous, melodic and internationally inspired jazz.

About Manon Mullener

Born in Fribourg, Switzerland in 1997 into a musical family, Manon Mullener began her studies in Fribourg before continuing her musical education in Havana, Cuba, and at the Bern University of the Arts, where she studied with acclaimed musicians including Colin Vallon and Django Bates.

In 2019 she recorded her first album, a two-piano collaboration with Cesar Correa featuring percussionist David Stauffacher. She went on to release Insomnia, the first album from the Manon Mullener 5tet, in 2023, followed by Stories in 2025.

Manon has performed in clubs and festivals throughout Switzerland and internationally, with appearances across France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, the UK, Lithuania, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

In 2025, Swiss newspaper Le Temps selected her for its Forum des 100, recognising 100 of the most influential personalities in French-speaking Switzerland. She was subsequently awarded the Swiss Jazz Award 2026.

Lucien Mullener – Drums
Lucien began playing drums at the age of five and grew up making music alongside his sister Manon. After completing his pre-professional studies at the Fribourg Conservatory, he joined the HEMU in Lausanne in 2019. A highly active performer, his work spans jazz, blues, contemporary music and electronic sounds, including projects such as Manon Mullener 5tet, Saraka, Mullener-Hernandez-Giovanoli Trio, Overspace, Woodi and Jazzin’ Orchestra.

Rodrigo Aravena – Electric Bass
Born in Santiago, Chile and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Rodrigo Aravena began as a drummer before moving through saxophone and ultimately finding his musical voice on bass. His extensive career spans jazz, funk, Latin, flamenco, rock, blues and reggae. He has performed with a wide range of leading musicians and ensembles in Australia and Switzerland and appeared at festivals including Montreux Jazz Festival, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Galway Jazz Festival and Manila Jazz Festival. His international career has taken him to venues and festivals throughout Europe, Asia, Australasia and the Americas, including residencies at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.
