Marion & Sobo Band: Gomera Album Tour

Marion & Sobo Band bring their Gomera album tour to Toulouse Lautrec for a London and England debut, weaving gypsy jazz, chanson and rhythms from France, Cuba and the Balkans.

Gypsy jazz, global rhythms and multilingual chanson

Marion & Sobo Band make their London and England debut at Toulouse Lautrec, bringing music from their latest album Gomera and a joyful blend of gypsy jazz, swing and chanson.

Led by French-American vocalist Marion Lenfant-Preus and Polish guitarist Alexander “Sobo” Sobocinski, the quartet moves between the musical worlds of France, Cuba and the Balkans. Songs in French, English, Spanish and Romanes sit alongside original compositions and fresh interpretations of vintage favourites, with Django Reinhardt’s swinging spirit running through the repertoire.

Having shared the stage on several occasions with world-class guitarists Joscho Stephan and Lulo Reinhardt, the band brings an adventurous approach to acoustic music. Nimble guitar work, expressive violin, inventive scat singing and the pulse of double bass create a sound that can be delicate and contemplative one moment, colourful and fiercely energetic the next, all without a drummer.

The stage is their home. For more than 14 years, these musicians, travellers and composers have connected with audiences across generations and cultures through their shared love of music. Their performances are full of charm, humour and spontaneous interplay, with an enthusiasm that draws listeners into every song.

Join them for a special first appearance in London for an evening of swinging strings, musical discovery and the sheer pleasure of playing together.

About Marion & Sobo Band

Marion and Sobo met at a jazz jam session in Bonn, Germany, more than 14 years ago. What began as a duo grew into a band with fellow musicians from the Bonn and Cologne jazz scenes, united by a love of swing, travel and musical discovery.

Marion Lenfant-Preus – Vocals & Rhythm Guitar

Marion was raised in France in a bilingual family. Her love of languages began at an early age and is reflected in both her music and her life abroad. Her motto: “Language is music, and music is language.”

Lyrics in different languages, many of which she writes herself, offer a new playground for Marion to explore with her voice, connecting with audiences through music and stories. Recordings by Ella Fitzgerald introduced her to scat singing, while years of performing alongside speedy, virtuoso gypsy jazz guitarists have further shaped her approach. For Marion, the voice is an instrument, and a versatile one!

Alexander “Sobo” Sobocinski – Guitar

Sobo was raised in Poland before moving to Germany and studying jazz guitar in the Netherlands. Nature and his travels around the world, including Argentina, New Zealand and the Canary Islands, have provided a steady stream of inspiration for his compositions and the music he listens to and plays. Street music and hikes through new landscapes continue to feed his musical curiosity.

As a young adult, that curiosity led him from electric to acoustic guitar, and into jazz and gypsy jazz, with a deep admiration for guitarists such as Pat Metheny and Django Reinhardt.
