Biscuit Town are an early-era swing band with a hard-driving acoustic rhythm and smoking horn section in the finest New Orleans tradition. They recreate the hot jazz sounds of the 1920s, 1930s and early 1940s that are tailor made for swing dancers.
Biscuit Town was formed by Barry Holloway and Danielle Purkiss, who have played shows to rave reviews at the Clapham Grand, Theatre Royal and Trafalgar Square.
Barry is a veteran of the swing dance scene, playing with different bands over the years across the UK and Europe. Highlights include Rhythm Riot, Rivoli Ballroom and Twinwood, as well as many swing dance events in Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Holland and Denmark.
The inspiration for the Biscuit Town sound comes from the musical pilgrimages that Barry has made to New Orleans, where he has been invited to play and sing with some of the top early jazz bands. They say that New Orleans is a place where you either lose yourself or find yourself and it’s definitely where the band found their sound. Biscuit Town’s mission is to bring the infectious sound of Frenchmen Street back to London.
Our bread and butter is swing dances, but we also enjoy performing for weddings, community events, festivals, jazz clubs, private parties, charity events, historic and reenactment-related events, Gatsby-themed events, World War II-themed events and, really, anywhere that people enjoy music.
Joining Barry & Danielle are some of the finest young musicians in London’s swing and jazz scenes.
