Donovan Haffner and his quintet will be performing, featuring Francisco Garcia De Paredes on guitar, Jay Verma on piano, Harry Pearce on double bass, and Harry Ling on drums. Expect interactive, energetic playing that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Each of these musicians is an up-and-coming artist in their own right, bringing their unique voice to the bandstand. They will be playing original compositions, all composed by Donovan, which include memorable melodies that will stay with you long after the night is over.
Donovan’s compositions are inspired by moments in his life when he felt the need to express his feelings through music. As such, they have a deeper connection to him. Influenced by modern jazz from America, Donovan aims to capture the roots of the music in his pieces. Drawing on ideas from jazz standards and original music by artists such as Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and John Coltrane, as well as contemporary musicians like Walter Smith III, Immanuel Wilkins, Joel Ross, and Ambrose Akinmusire.
Donovan Haffner, a 22-year-old alto saxophonist, is currently studying for a BMus degree specializing in jazz at the Royal Academy of Music. Donovan has performed with a variety of professional musicians, including prominent contemporary British artists such as Moses Boyd and Jay Phelps, as well as European contemporaries like Rasmus Sorenson.
Mentored by Gary Crosby OBE, Alex Davis, and Binker Golding of Tomorrow’s Warriors in his earlier years, Donovan’s musicianship has led him to play at prestigious London jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café, The Vortex, and Pizza Express in Soho and Holborn. He has also appeared at festivals including the EFG London Jazz Festival, Pitchfork Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, We Out Here Festival, and Brainchild.
