Sarah Vaughan, an enduring icon of the American vocal jazz scene since the 1940s, represents the quintessential sound of this genre. Renowned as “one of the most extraordinary voices of the 20th century,” Vaughan collaborated with a constellation of notable American musicians, including luminaries such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Bud Powell.
Vaughan was a passionate interpreter of the Great American Songbook, breathing life into compositions from the foremost musicals of her era. Her repertoire included works by celebrated composers such as George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Henry Mancini. This evening, Toulouse Lautrec will play host to the exquisite arrangements and captivating musical melodies associated with Sarah Vaughan.
In the spotlight are Chris Bland, Aitzi Cofre Real, Luke Fowler and Billy Pod four of the most promising talents on the thriving London jazz scene. Their musical journey began earlier this year, unveiling an innate connection that thrives on musical audacity, narrative expression, and an intense rhythmic allure.
Recently culminating in the recording of an album scheduled for release next year at Cowshed, this ensemble is set to enchant the audience with the timeless musical wonders of Sarah Vaughan, featuring a medley of tunes from classics like “Girl Crazy,” “Yokel Boy,” “Thumbs Up,” and more.
