Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, Betty Carter and Abbey Lincoln weren’t just great jazz vocalists – they were also songwriters, who contributed some key works to the canon. In Women’s Words, Sisters Stories, vocalist Ineza and the Alex Webb Trio explore the repertoire penned by the great female songstresses, with the help of star trombonist Noushy.
Ineza is a dazzling Rwandan-born Belgian Jazz singer, based in London. She is a graduate of both Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and Maastricht Conservatoire in The Netherlands. She is also a passionate educator, and next to her work as a singing teacher she has been involved in various workshop-leading projects. She also has a passion for performing repertoire composed by the great female stars of jazz.
Alex Webb is a pianist, arranger and songwriter with a long history of working with leading jazz vocalists; his songs have been recorded by Liane Carroll, China Moses, Jo Harrop, Allan Harris, Cherise, Ayanna Witter-Johnson and many others.
Anoushka Nanguy, known as ‘Noushy’ is a 21 year old trombonist and singer from Glasgow. She is currently studying jazz trombone at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Noushy fronts the party-jazz group/collective ‘Astrosnax’ and has emerged as a prominent member of the Glasgow jazz scene, as well as playing trombone with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO).
