Jazz from the Silver Screen

Toulouse Lautrec is delighted to welcome back one of our most regularly sold out shows: the Jazz in Cinema Project!

After a long hiatus dedicated to their solo projects and releases, Germana Stella La Sorsa (vocals) and Joe Boyle (double bass) are coming back together on our main stage for a dazzling night dedicated to the finest jazz music and songs that have been written for movies or used in films over the course of the last Century!

Born as a duo in 2017, during the years, La Sorsa and Boyle have performed with this project in and around London and Italy and it has been enriched by some of the brightest British and Italian jazz musicians.

With special arrangements, the group’s interpretation has given a new life to some of the renowned jazz tunes that appear in some of the best loved movies in the history of cinema.

For this special comeback, with them on stage there will be guitarist Tom Ollendorff (“one of the world’s finest guitarists” – Gilad Hekselman) and drummer Jamie Murray (“a drummer to watch out for” – Rhythm Drummer Magazine)

Join us for this immersive night of jazz, remembering some of the most beautiful tunes from the silver screen.

Italian London based Jazzant-garde singer and storyteller Germana Stella La Sorsa relocated from Puglia in 2017 and quickly established herself among the London jazz scene.

She released her debut album “Vapour” in 2021 on 33 Jazz Records and brings all of her influences together in her second studio album due to be released in 2024 with the support of Help Musicians.

“There is a sort of positive melancholy in Germana’s vocal performance, you hear a link to the tradition yet at the same time it’s fresh and forward facing.” – Simone Gubbiotti, Jazz in Europe

Multi-faceted double bassist Joe Boyle has been performing in a number of guises across London for many years, having played everything from Bluegrass and Greek folk music, to Classical music, Prog-Rock and Jazz. He will be releasing his debut album of original music early next year, having preview the music at Ronnie Scott’s.

Tom Ollendorff is fast becoming one of the most exciting young guitarists to emerge on the UK and international jazz scenes. Tom is known for his highly distinctive sound which blends virtuosic guitar playing with sophisticated harmonic and melodic ideas, whilst always keeping room for nuance and sensitivity.

Jamie Murray is one of the great upcoming drummers on the scene today. A forward thinking and conceptual player with a solid groove style yet he has an open-minded approach to free experimentation. His performances are always fresh and exhilarating!
