Joe Boyle’s Union

In a time when unions are falling apart left, right and centre, Double Bass player Joe Boyle presents his own Union, who will performing a mixture of his original music and the music of some of his inspirations; covering everything from classical music, to wild avant-guard jazz.

Double bass player and composer Joe Boyle has been writing music for many years, which culminated in the recording of his soon-to-be-released debut album ‘Welcome to the New World’. The music takes inspiration from the surrounding world and is written as a reflection of society in all of its good and bad.

After presenting his work with great success in venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and The Crypt, Joe brings his Union to the main stage of Toulouse Lautrec, performing songs from his album and a variety of other music that has had a profound effect on him over the years.

Poly-instrumentalist Joe studied jazz at many institutions through the years, culminating in taking his degree at Middlesex University. During this time he performed at many significant venues, such as the Barbican and Ronnie Scott’s, and played alongside the likes of Courtney Pine and Ian Shaw, as well as members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

During the years, he has proved that he is an extremely versatile performer, being able to turn his hand to everything from classical music to traditional Greek music and experimental rock.

He has performed at Toulouse Lautrec a number of times as part of the Jazz in Cinema project with Germana Stella La Sorsa, as well as playing sideman to various other musicians, but this will be the first time that he will be presenting his own music Upstairs at Toulouse, for a not-to-be-missed night!
