Marcina Arnold is a world-class vocalist of South African, Asian, and Scottish heritage. She has performed all over the world, from Europe and India to South Africa.
A first-class performer with a vocal delivery that goes straight to the heart, she will be joined this evening by an exclusive band featuring multi-instrumentalist Artie Zaitz on piano and guitar, Daniel Crosby on drums, Rio Kai on bass, plus very special guests sitting in.
Tonight’s musical selection will be songs that will be featured on a future release, bringing the audience “back to the now” with her intuitive and rhythmic vocal improvisations and the sparkling intimacy of a close-up audience with a stomping quartet. This promises to be a night of musical vivacity!
Artie Zaitz – Guitar and Piano
Artie Zaitz, at 31, is a true jazz scene veteran. An imaginative and tasteful musician, he combines multiple contrasting elements in a single run, blending extended jazz phrases seamlessly with blues sensibility. Zaitz, hailing from a family of musicians, developed an interest in recordings from the Blue Note label, which has profoundly influenced him. His notable collaborations include Moses Boyd, The Banger Factory, Camilla George, Jordan Rakei, and Tom Waters Electric People.
Daniel Crosby – Drums
Daniel Crosby has been playing drums since his youth. He has been featured with Tomorrow’s Warriors, Julie Dexter, and Jazz Jamaica, performing internationally at many renowned jazz festivals.
Rio Kai – Bass
Rio Kai is a multi-award winning bassist, Musical Director and composer. He featured as a bandleader and sideman in several projects including seed. (2019 Mercury Awards Nomination), Nerija (2017 Parliamentary Jazz Awards Best Newcomer of the Year), the Benet McLean Quintet, Stratos and Do Not Assume. He performs regularly in London’s jazz scene with several prominent artists such as Courtney Pine and Zara McFarlane, Alan Weekes and Jason Brown, and as part of several weekly residencies in prominent venues across East London.Â
Mussinghi B Edwards – Special Guest Tenor Sax
Mussinghi B Edwards is a revered figure in the London jazz scene, known for his relaxed approach and cool, subtle style. He has performed with Salif Keita, John Holt, Jazz Jamaica, The Jazz Warriors, The Banger Factory, Carol Thompson, and Sandra Cross. As a mentor, his extensive knowledge of jazz has helped many younger players find their voices.
