Septology is a hard swinging instrumental septet led by arrangers, Harry Brunt & Connor Martin. Taking inspiration from the Wynton Marsalis Septet, Thad Jones & Mel Lewis, and Charlie Haden’s Liberation Orchestra, Septology seek to draw together the harmonic and textural possibilities of a large ensemble whilst maintaining the flexibility of a small band.

Expect exiting interpretations of carefully selected jazz standards and bebop compositions.

Harry Brunt is a saxophonist & composer with a ferocious drive to express himself completely within sound. Described by John Harle as ‘a genuine original.. a composer with a complex and often haunting signature style’, Harry writes music that ranges from the visceral and exuberant to the calm and reflective. In addition to his work with Septology, Harry is a co-leader of award winning contemporary jazz band, Howl Quartet, and runs his own quartet. He has worked with artists including: Jean Carne, Tom Seals, Tony Momrelle (Incognito), Casandra Jenkins, Tomorrow’s New Quartet & Nel Begley. Harry holds Masters degrees from both The Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Connor Martin MMus is a London based trombone player, arranger and educator. He regularly performs across the UK and abroad at a number of venues and festivals including Glastonbury where he has shared the stage with Basement Jaxx and supported Fatboy Slim. Connor enjoys the variety of musical styles he is exposed to as a freelance player and has worked with a wide array of musicians including Tommy Blaize, Hermeto Pascoal and DJ Judge Jules. Additionally, Connor is a busy session trombonist and member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra which he has performed a sell out show at Ronnie Scott’s with guest saxophonist Tim Garland.
