Bianco Li Quintet

In 2020, Bianco was discovered and received an invitation to showcase her singing talent at the prestigious JZ Club Hangzhou, one of China’s renowned jazz venues. Following numerous performances, she began to establish her reputation, leading to invitations to sing at other notable venues such as JZ Club Shanghai, Blue Note Shanghai, and the JZ Spring Jazz Festival 2021 in Shanghai.

Returning to London in 2022 to complete her fine art studies at Chelsea College of Arts, Bianco actively participated in jazz jam sessions during the autumn. Swiftly forming her own quintet, she organised sessions across various locations in London.

Bianco’s performances prominently feature scat-singing, showcasing her impressive three-octave vocal range. She delves into the instrumentalisation of voice, highlighting her musical sensibility and improvisational skills. Her commitment lies in crafting an auditory experience that is both spiritual and unique.

Functioning as an immersive artist with a focus on vocal experimentation, Bianco engaged in various performative and sound art projects. Her repertoire included stage-based performance art, mimicking instrumental sounds, Asian folk singing, overtone singing, poetry, lyrics, spoken word, body movement, contemporary compositions, and behaviour arts. A core belief she adheres to is that ‘the voice itself is an instrument.’

In 2022, Bianco established her experimental trio ‘Lao San Yang,’ exploring impromptu possibilities within free improvisation, folk songs, Chinese opera, myths, and traditional string and woodwind instruments. Their performances left an imprint at venues such as Amersham Arms, Hundred Years Gallery, JZ Club Hangzhou, Goldsmiths University of London, and more.

During the summer of 2023, Bianco received invitations for a tour and residency at JZ Club Hangzhou, JZ Shanghai, YongFoo Elite Shanghai, and Loopy Hangzhou. In September of the same year, she pursued further studies at the Royal College of Arts.
