Axel Kaner-Lidstrom

London-born trumpeter, composer and bandleader Axel Kaner-Lidstrom is one of the most exciting voices on the contemporary UK jazz scene. Known for his expressive trumpet sound, adventurous improvisation and deep respect for the jazz tradition, Axel regularly brings together some of the capital’s finest musicians for dynamic performances that bridge classic repertoire with forward-thinking original music.

A regular performer at Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, Axel has become a familiar presence on the venue’s stage, both showcasing his own original compositions and leading acclaimed tributes to jazz legends including Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and Cannonball Adderley. His performances combine the spontaneity and energy of modern London jazz with the timeless spirit of the great Blue Note era.

Born into a musical family, Axel is an alumnus of both Tomorrow’s Warriors and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, two institutions renowned for nurturing the next generation of British jazz talent.

Alongside his work as a bandleader, Axel has performed and recorded with some of the most respected names in contemporary jazz. Most recently, he recorded an album with legendary saxophonist and former Miles Davis collaborator Gary Bartz, while also touring internationally with acclaimed artist Celeste, appearing at major stages including Glastonbury Festival and Philharmonie de Paris.

Axel is also the founder and director of Levitation Orchestra, an innovative composer’s workshop and large ensemble project centred around collaboration, experimentation and collective creativity. Through original suites and genre-crossing compositions, the orchestra explores new perspectives within contemporary jazz while championing London’s vibrant improvising community.
