Nigel Price

Renowned for his flowing bebop lines and prolific Organ Trio, award-winning London jazz guitarist Nigel Price is a driving force on the UK scene.

Nigel Price is an award-winning London-based jazz guitarist, bandleader, and educator, widely recognised as one of the most active and prolific musicians on the UK jazz scene. His signature sound blends flowing bebop lines, a deep blues sensibility, and a strong chording technique. Before establishing himself firmly in the jazz world, he spent his early career touring Europe with various reggae and funk acts. This rhythmic foundation led to a three-year tenure with the James Taylor Quartet, where he recorded multiple albums, as well as performances with the acid jazz group The Filthy Six.

At the core of his current output is the Nigel Price Organ Trio, featuring Price on guitar alongside Ross Stanley on Hammond organ and Joel Barford on drums. The trio operates as one of the most heavily touring jazz units in the UK, boasting an extensive discography that includes releases like Live ’23 and It’s On!. Beyond his trio, Price has a rich history of collaboration across genres. He has worked and recorded with prominent jazz figures such as Lorne Lofsky, Alessio Menconi, Vasilis Xenopoulos, and David Axelrod. His studio and stage credits also extend to pop and soul legends, including contributing guitar work to Van Morrison’s album Keep Me Singing and supporting Gladys Knight at the Royal Albert Hall.

A cornerstone of the London jazz community, Price is a regular fixture at the iconic Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, where he has logged approximately 600 performances. His technical mastery and dedication to live music have earned him significant industry recognition, including the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Ensemble in 2010 and the title of Best Guitarist at the 2016 British Jazz Awards.
